Italian Grammar: Expressing consequence

We introduce the consequence of an action with the following expressions which mean that, so that or in order to:

  • in modo che,
  • cosicché,
  • così.. da,

Examples:

Abbiamo ripassato così tanto da saperlo a memoria.
We went over it so often that we know it by heart.

Devi chiamarlo, in modo da chiarire la situazione.
You have to call him so that you can clear up the situation.

Abbiamo preparato tutto così bene da evitare il minimo errore.
We prepared everything so well in order to avoid any kind of error.

Ti ho lasciato libera stasera, cosicchè tu possa organizzarti.
I've left you alone this evening so that you could get organised.
