To indicate a place near to where the person is speaking.

To indicate a place far away from where the person is speaking.

Examples:

Qui fa freddo e ?
It's cold here. What about there?

Qua c'è caldo e ?
It's hot here. What about there?

 

"Qui vicino" is a common expression used to reinforce the idea that something is near.

Example:

Qui vicino ci sono un ristorante e una pizzeria.
